Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy

We all have different “parts” inside us.
The part that overthinks everything.
The one that shuts down when things get hard.
The people-pleaser, the perfectionist, the angry one, the protector.
These parts aren’t broken—they’re doing their best. At some point, they learned how to protect us, even if those strategies don’t quite fit our lives anymore.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a gentle, powerful therapy that helps you understand these internal parts and reconnect with your calm, grounded, true Self—your core, the essence of who you are, and the inner wisdom we all possess. We simply need more access to its ability to lead and heal.

What Happens in IFS Therapy?

IFS isn’t about forcing change or digging through pain with a microscope. It’s about building trust with the parts of you that have been trying to manage life on their own for too long.
In session, we slow down. We get curious. You’ll learn how to recognize which part is showing up in a moment (the one that gets anxious, the one that criticizes, the one that shuts everything out), and how to listen to it without judgment. As you develop more self-leadership, those parts can start to soften—and finally rest.
You don’t have to push past your feelings.
You get to understand them.
That’s where real change begins.
IFS is Especially Helpfull For
IFS doesn’t require you to relive trauma or explain everything in detail. It asks you to get curious about what’s happening inside—and to begin responding from your Self, not your survival.

What Makes IFS Different?

Most therapy models focus on managing symptoms.
IFS helps you transform the relationship you have with yourself.
At Mended Counseling, we use IFS to help you:
• Build compassion toward your own inner world
• Understand why your parts are activated
• Respond instead of react
• Develop confidence, calm, and clarity from the inside out
It’s not always easy—but it’s deeply healing. And it’s work you don’t have to do alone.

Not Sure If IFS Is Right for You?

That’s okay. Part of our job is helping you figure out what type of support best fits your story, pace, and needs. We’ll talk through your goals and offer guidance—without pressure.
